TREDDA stands for Texas Retired Educators Deferred Dividend Association

“Providing financial aid and assistance to indigent or similarly deserving retired public school employees in the state of Texas with funds derived in part from sources other than dues, fees. or assessments for its services”

TREDDA, a 501c(3) non-profit, is a group of people that believe in helping others who “did not work less, they only worked for less” and now, as retired individuals, try to survive below the poverty level. We like to refer to our awards as “dividends”. We feel that these people earned a “dividend” for the years of service to our schools. Some of our recipients had to stop working because of a disability.

The criteria for receiving our awards (or dividends) are as follows:
1. Must make an application.
2. Must have an income lower than the federal lunchroom schedule for free lunch.
3. Must have worked in the school system for at least 5 years.
4. Must be receiving a TRS check.

At the present time, we are awarding dividends to 18 people. We also send birthday and Christmas checks to each recipient. Two additional people that have received award checks in the past, but are no longer eligible, continue to receive birthday and Christmas checks from TREDDA. If our recipient’s income increases, they are no longer eligible for the dividend check, but continue to receive the Christmas and birthday checks.

The funding comes from individuals who are interested in the welfare of these people. Bequeaths have been made to TREDDA and property has been left to TREDDA with proceeds of the sale going to TREDDA. The cost of our dividends to our recipients is approximately $31,000.00 annually. Our yearbook is published every other year. Our newsletter goes to members two times a year. We have had, and will continue to have, an annual luncheon held at a local restaurant which has done very well as a fundraiser. Most of our budget is for postage, printing, and awards.

The TREDDA Board meets six times a year. The meetings are open to all members.

We would love to have you as a member. Yearly dues are $25.00. Lifetime dues are $500.00 and may be paid in 5 installments of $100.00 a year, for 5 years. A Memorial or an honorarium for birthdays, holidays, or whatever reason you wish during the year, is always a nice gesture.

You do not have to be a member to make a donation to TREDDA. Donations are tax deductable. Donations are accepted through Pay Pal, charge cards and by mail. For your convenience, a click button is on our website.

You do not need to be active or retired as an educator to join. Anyone can join TREDDA! We invite you to join our membership today.
